I had to install a new ceiling box in a dining area that didn’t have a ceiling light and no access to the space above. This can be installed through the hole and is hefty enough to hold more weight than I needed. It took a little fussing with it to get the legs to sit properly with insulation interfering with their movement, but it worked and is doing the job I needed it for.

The unit is very sturdy as described, but the receptacle is rather deep… my particular application ended up being capable to mount direct to stud, so the box stuck out too far…. had to by a 1/2 shallow box. THIS unit is great if I was able to get between two joist though. would recommend since very well made and sturdy.

My fan was shaking and we were scared of it falling in us so we night this and it works so well! Our house didn’t have a fan in the room where we installed this so the light fixture was loose and couldn’t hold up a fan but when we put this in it worked perfect

We added a light in our room 2 years ago.Husband: “Are you SURE you’re not going to want a ceiling fan?????” Because now is the time to put a brace in for the ceiling fan…”Me: “No babe. Let’s do a little chandelier. I don’t need a fan. I promise I don’t want a ceiling fan!”A year later. “Hmm I kinda want a ceiling fan.” Kept that to myself. Two years later.Me: “Hey honey, can we put in a ceiling fan???”Hubby: “SEE!! I knew it!! I should’ve listened to myself and put in the brace!! You know I have to crawl back into the attic —“Me: “No yea, totally. That’s not good.”I almost gave up on my dream of having a ceiling fan and then I found this retro brace when desperately trying to find a solution to get a ceiling fan in our room (early menopause ?). I shared this with my hubs and he begrudgingly agreed to try it.He never had to go in the attic!!! And was so impressed by the brace and how easy it was that he’s thinking of switching out a couple other fixtures for ceiling fans.My husband, myself and my hot flashes thank you!!!!

Once we removed the old light and saw it was not strong enough for the fan I was worried but found this device online and thought i would give it a chance. If you don’t want to cut and patch the drywall I’d encourage you to give this a try. With the old box knocked out of the way with a wooden block the new one slipped into place and was easy to install. The bar expanded easily, to fit tightly between the studs, and the clip fit well and firmly over the bar to hold the metal electrical box. Once that was installed, then it was easy to finish the wiring and get it working. Unit came with all the hardware you needed so thx for making it easy.

I needed to place a light in between the roof rafters on a trailer. The existing box was an old work box and the celing broke out around the box tabs making that style unusable.I decided to try this box. It did work for what I needed but I never got it to tighten up on the rafters. It continued to move quite a bit. Not a problem for holding a light , but I wouldn’t have trusted a fan on it.I will say I’m nit sure it is the boxes fault. The way the rafters were, they were smaller than normal and I think that the smaller service area make it not grab as good.

I just purchased two ceiling fans for my garage. These fans are replacing two original light fixtures. The light fixtures were not strong enough for a ceiling fan, so I purchased two of these kits.I just finished installing the first one. This fit fine for a 24″ span. The original electrical box was nailed to the truss.I was suprised how closely I could get the new box to the truss plate. It is very adjustable. Also, one side is sitting on a truss plate and this holds on to the truss plate just fine. This support is strong, even at the 24″ width. It is definitely going to work for the 52″ fans that I have. The fan doesn’t wobble or move a bit. It feels SOLID.This support was very easy to install. I’ve never done this before, and the hardest part was enlarging the hole in the drywall.I am very happy and I will buy this again the next time I install a ceiling fan.Hope this helps.
