So much to say about these fans (and some Ceiling Fan lessons I learned throughout the process). I hope this review is helpful to some, to others it might be “I already knew that”. Certainly I learned a lot, as I was replacing all five of my 16yo AC Ceiling Fans (“dumb” fans) in my house with five new DC “Smafan Apex” fans (“smart”)… which I do believe is just another way of saying “Carro Apex” fans, as these are 100% identical to the Home Depot “Carro” fans found on their website. Some interesting things I learned about Ceiling fans while replacing all of mine in my home:DC Ceiling Fans vs AC Ceiling Fans… to be honest, I wasn’t paying any attention to this when I was shopping fans… I only learned the difference AFTER I bought them, and there are SIGNIFICANT differences between AC and DC ceiling fans that I wish I knew before I bought, though I probably still would have bought DC had I known then what I know now. If you don’t know, i’ll sum it up:DC fans usually use less energy – up to 70% less than a standard AC fan, they are generally extremely quiet, they will often have more speed options, the reverse function on the remote, and are generally faster to start, stop and change speed and the motor is generally more compact and lighter, which allows for a slimmer motor design.AC fans are usually cheaper than DC fans and can be controlled from a wall control/switches, pull cord or remote, while DC fans can generally only be controlled by remote (unless they have smart functions for App or Alexa). So, in summary, DC fans are more efficient, quieter, and have more speeds, but cost more and can’t be controlled by wall switches, which is kind of a bummer.Another point, folks have mentioned in reviews and questions… the downrod(s) to lower these things more than the standard 4-inch downrod (pictured in review) included in every fan kit. As of the date of this posting (summer 2022) Amazon doesn’t seem to list any Smafan/Carro compatible downrods on-site. If you have a very tall ceiling or a slanted ceiling and need a downrod longer than the included 4-inches, you’re not going to find it on Amazon… however, if you do a Google search for “Carro downrod” you can find multiple retailers that do sell them online. I went to my local Lowes/Home Depot, but neither carried any compatible with Smafan/Carro… you’ll need to order them online… they are smaller in diameter (about 21mm) than the “average” downrod you’ll find in your local hardware store, so don’t bother trying to get one in town! I ordered mine (14″ black downrod) from Smafan dot com, but other online shops carry them… CarroUSA, HomeDepot and a few others. So if you need a longer downrod than 4″, make sure you order one online too!Back to the fan(s) itself… as I mentioned, I ordered five for my home… four in 52″ diameter, and one in 56″ diameter for the Living Room. I’m not an electrician, nor do I play one on TV, so I just hired an electrician to install these… ya, I know, I technically could have done it myself, but would rather not mess with it. The electrician I hired cursed a little under his breath a few times, he mentioned everything was a little “over-engineered” and he took longer than expected but did get them all up and running in a day (replacing old AC fans with these new DC fans). What do I think? After all is said and done, i’m VERY happy with the end result… it’s a lot of trial and error on my part to get the app running with all the fans, tie them into my Alexa Home app and put all the remote holders on the walls (I put them near the now-defunct wall switches for the old fans which now don’t do anything). Pro-tip… the remote holders for the DC fans can be put anywhere you want, but I highly recommend putting them in line-of-sight of the fan itself, because the remotes are old-school IR remotes… meaning if you mount them on the wall out of direct sight of the fan, pressing a remote button in the holder won’t work, you’ll have to pull the remote out to use it in line-of-sight of the fan.I found getting the fans onto the Carro app a bit tricky… I included a picture with the instructions to add it to the app in my review… I found the documentation included with the fan rather poorly written and confusing, so I wrote my own instructions after I figured it out after much trial and error. I was also able to add the fans to my existing Alexa hub network in my home. I have two FireTV Cubes and two Amazon Echos… all of them can turn on/off any of the ceiling fans in the house (as well as both the Carro and Alexa App). Note, EACH FAN is THREE entries onto the Alexa App… the fan and two lights, the “White Light” and “Yellow Light”… so each has it’s own commands (turn on the fan, turn on the light, turn on the yellow light). With Alexa you can also voice-command change the fan speeds and light brightness by using “SET” as your command word… such as:Alexa, SET the fan to 10 (meaning max speed) or SET the fan to 5 (meaning half speed)Alexa, SET the Yellow Light to 100 (max brightness) or SET the Yellow Light to 50 (half bright)This has TRULY been a project for me. Replacing all five fans in my home at once with fans I really knew nothing about (I knew I wanted smart fans, but I had no idea about the difference between AC/DC fans or the fact by choosing DC i’d lose wall switch support… didn’t know that, but I really like the upside to DC fans and I don’t miss the wall switches because everything is voice controlled now). I had completely messed up procuring the correct downrod before hiring the electrician, so I had to order the correct downrod and wait awhile before finishing the living room fan. I had no idea how complicated setting up the app and Alexa would be, but in the end, I did figure it out. The end result is much happiness for me… these fans are VERY POWERFUL at full 10-speed… they are VERY QUIET compared to my old AC fans… they save on energy as well… the two lights (white and yellow) are pretty bright if both turned on at the same time to full 100 setting on both… but you have a very generous dimming option if you prefer cool blue/white light or if you prefer warm/yellow light, as you can turn either on and leave the other off and play with all the dimming options for either. In summary, the fans are powerful, have 10 speeds, very quiet even at full speed, energy efficient and have a lot of lighting options in brightness or cool/warm lighting (dimming/brightness from 1 to 100). Installation seemed a tad frustrating, didn’t like losing wall-switch control (a trait of DC fans), and the initial setup on the app was a bit of a headache, but the smart functions are great once you get everything figured out and voice controlled. It feels like an amazing upgrade over my old-school AC fans with pull chains (these DC fans have no chains, FYI).If I had to do it all over again knowing then what I know now, I’d still choose these fans… I just would have been a lot smarter at some of the steps along the way.

I love the looks of the fan. The fan actually works well, and is very quiet. But….huge but…..the light comes on all by itself. I like the fan to run during the night, but the light comes on all by itself! Very annoying when you’re trying to sleep. The other night it happened three times. The only way then to turn it off is to turn the wall switch completely to off. No fan, no light. So, the fan just hangs there, and it does look nice. But unusable if you don’t want the light to have a mind of its own. Not sending it back because it was a HUGE pain to install.

I will start by saying, I really like this fan. In fact, this review is being written for the second we have purchased. I hope the manufacturer reads some of these reviews, because this was written also for them. The app and the remote control a very quirky. I’ll start with the remote. When I first got the fan connected to WiFi, the app and the remote were not in sync. Fan speed, light brightness, etc. I worked that out. The other odd thing about the remote is, often times when I press the button to turn ON the lights, it comes on and immediately turns back off. I often have to press it 2 or even 3 times. Same thing happens when pushing that button to turn the light OFF. It often times takes 2 to 3 tries. The app isn’t as problematic. Like I said, it sometimes gets out of sync with the remote. It also often complains about the Wifi connection/signal. Even though the WiFi router is only about 15′ away, and other WiFi devices in that room are fine with the WiFi. Probably the strangest thing about this fan is getting it connected to WiFi. The instructions say to turn off, and then on, the circuit breaker for that circuit at the breaker panel. No joke! It works. But that is very strange. As far as the fan; at high speed it is whisper quiet. Over time the mid-level speeds developed a slight hum. Not a big problem. The fan, at high speed, pushed a lot of air! Which is nice. And the thing I like most about this fan is the look. It just looks really nice, over all, but I really like the look of not having pull chains. Also, being a low voltage DC fan motor is also nice. Uses less electricity. Their support is good also. I would buy another one. Sorry, it just has too many oddities to give it 5 stars.

Great product and surprisingly super quiet. Easy to put together but install took some figuring out. Only downfall would be the light. The light is LED so it’s more of a directional light so it shines down but not up to light up the whole room. Hook it up to the app isn’t as easy as the instructions make it seem but I’m so happy with it otherwise. The summer and winter directional feature is great. A few flaws but a great product.

The ceiling fan is perfect for the family room. The remote is easy to use.

Disclaimer: my husband is an electrician and put this up for me. He said it was very easy to do but it is quite literally his job so keep that in mind. I do not know if it would be easy or difficult if you were unfamiliar with installing ceiling fans. This is the fastest yet quietest fan I have ever had. No rocking even on level 10.
