komondor –
So I have purchased a few Minka Fans in the past and the one this replaced lasted about 15 years of being run pretty much 24×7 in our bedroom. I turned it off to replace the bulb and dust off the blades. It never turned back on!So onto this fan a DC motor with variable speeds, you will see 2 speeds on a sheet somewhere the remote shows 6 speeds, Alexa however will do most anything as far as speed goes, increase by 10% go to 75% etc.So suffice it to say you can get the speed to just what you want. Installation is fairly easy if you Do Not follow the directions in my opinion. I removed the old fan and installed the longer downrod. I then got all the trim pieces lined up on the rod, removed the pin that goes across the rod inside and pushed all the wires up through the rod attached the end to the fan securely and put the pin back into that end. I then had the fan which is easy to hold and move around to mount to the ceiling using the cradle provided. Popping that on was a breeze then comes the hard part getting all those wires pit together and pushed away. If I had to do it again I would have purchased some butt connectors like this https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/519jNMNAtwL._AC_SL1100_.jpg just to make it a little more secure wire nuts with stranded wire can be tricky. I pushed a lot of the wires back up into the ceiling mount to get it all to fit.Now I had the fan all in place with no blades installed. installing the blades is pretty easy and I just used a screwdriver no power tools needed. There is a top and bottom screw that were pretty easy to install. From the top you just rotate the fan as needed for the bottom I just used the bed to stand on so I was under the fan and screwed the bottom screws in place. Turned on the power and it worked, setting up Alexa from the App was pretty simple and now we will probable not even use the remote most of the time. The one issue i had was the top trim piece it used a rubber grommet to hold it in place and it was pretty hard to get it just right I finally just shoved it under the trim and called it good the fan is silent and moved air better than my old fan.One thing I guess being a DC fan do not change direction unless the fan is stopped.
