After the light kit in an inexpensive, “no name” fan from China in the home I purchased gave out, I purchased this Minka Aire Stout fan, this one for a bedroom converted to a home office. As an owner of three other fans by this company, I knew that this model would not disappoint. The fan arrived well-packaged and included a detailed installation booklet. Our trusted handyman put it together and installed the unit in about an hour.As with our other models, the fan is extremely quiet. It provides plenty of air even at the low setting. The light kit provides a good range of illumination, from low to quite bright. The remote is easy to program.Though the Stout model it is sold as “contractor grade”, its clean, simple good looks could work well in many settings. And with one remaining “no name” fan in the house yet to replace, my choice will definitely be another Stout.

The fan is garbage. It’s not the shippers fault or anyone else’s, it’s the factory’s fault. When I installed the fan I found three stripped out screws that I went to great lengths to remove. They were just “temporary” screws on the motor body and hanger ball. The first one I drilled out and used pliers to remove. The next two were in the motor body, so drilling out wasn’t a good option. So I carefully used vice grips to work the screw backwards and forwards until they “mostly” came out. I still had to use compressed air and a vacuum to remove any metal shavings. The final straw came when I tried to put the brand new screws in those holes to hold on the fan blade assembly. They were too damaged and too thin of material to chase the threads. I threw it all in a dumpster and will buy something else. I won’t waste half a day repacking all this junk just to get a replacement or refund. I know that’s the game on some of these products, returning them wastes a full day of your time, so they make empty promises on “fixing” issues.
