Purchased fan for breezeway replacing a light fixture. Installation as expected. I’ve installed around 10 or so fans in my experience. Instructions are good enough if you’ve done this before. One brilliant bit of the design is the hanger and hook which lets you free your hands to complete the wiring. My hanger was actually different than the one in the instructions. The remote control unit seems as though its just being pushed into the available space before you attach the fan to the ceiling. I would like to see a better way.Fan is very attractive and lights and cools the space as we want. Remote control is bluetooth. You have to first push the remote button to connect bluetooth and then press again to turn on/off, etc. Connecting to my smarthome system was straightforward. I use Alexa or the Alexa app to control the fan regularly as opposed to the fans own app. I rarely use the remote. Alexa found the fan and light straightaway and installed the appropriate skill set.I would recommend that the seller of this fan clean up their Amazon listing. One gets confused whether the fan is wet or damp rated in this listing.

It requires a LOT of assembly. Most things that would come pre-wired or assembled (such as the LED light screwed to the light tray) on cheaper fans required you to assemble them w/ this fan. For a system that required EVERYTHING to be assembled and wired, you would expect higher quality instructions. When the fan rotates it will occasionally rub the metal tray holding the light assembly. Additionally, when you have the light and fan running, but turn off the light switch it resets the fan, so that when you flip the switch back on the fan/lights do not just turn on but you need to use the remote control to turn the fan/lights back on.The air movement is good, one of the better fans we have in the house.

I purchased this fan because of the low ceiling height in my basement. Since this is a hugger fan, it hangs closer to the ceiling than a downrod fan.I love the fact that I can control the speed up to 6 different levels for comfort, and the LED light is super bright and dimmable. This fan actually replaced an old ceiling light and now I have more light in addition to air movement. Our basement is generally cooler than the rest of the house, so when we have the ceiling fan on we can turn the thermostat off in the basement. The smart features are a bonus. We have an Amazon Alexa throughout the house (we seem to accumulate one every year from friends and family as Christmas gifts) and I love the fact that I can completely control my ceiling fan through voice commands. For example, if I’m in my bedroom and not sure whether I turned my basement fan and lights off, all I need to do is tell my Alexa to turn off basement light and fan instead of getting out of bed to do it.

*** STAY AWAY FROM WAC / MODERN FORMS! ***The summary: Over a month since I bought the fan, and it still doesn’t work as promised. First, the fan arrived with a faulty wifi unit (as described below). After many emails, many hours of time on the phone with their tech support, a few weeks spent waiting for the replacement wifi device, and a few hours spent uninstalling / reinstalling the fan, I thought I would be done. Oh, no, was I wrong, because their software turns out to be just as unreliable as their hardware.Their “smart” phone app (which costs $10 per fan), does not work as advertised. My fan would not connect to google assistant. Their efforts to fix the problem have not been successful. Every indication is that this is not a problem specific to my fan, but to all WAC / Modern Forms fans. Worse yet, their support has suddenly stopped responding to emails, while in the middle of working with me to diagnose and fix the issue. I have remained patient and polite, so this is criminal. If they were a large company, they would be in threat of a class-action settlement. My original post is below. It was a very generous review that I now regret.*** original post. ***It looks great, the hardware seems to be of good quality, and it’s very quiet.Unfortunately, the “smart” features of the fan were nonfunctional on arrival. Although I could get the fan to broadcast its wireless network SSID, it is password protected, and WAC is unable to tell me the password that would allow me access, which is necessary to pair the fan with a smart device (siri, alexa, etc).HOWEVER, when I contacted WAC, I was told in a very professional manner that they would send a new wireless unit. At first, they said they were reluctant to cover the costs of installation, but I asked the person on the phone to escalate the case, and he did not hesitate. The company called me the next day, apologized, and said they would help to cover the costs of repair. This is *exceptional* customer service, and I’m very happy about that. Also, if the guy on the phone, Eric (?), doesn’t already make six digits a year, he deserves a raise 🙂 . Email support was similarly professional, efficient, and friendly. They have a good team.I don’t see any other comments about the WIFI password issue, so I’ll assume it was a fluke incident. That WAC was so responsive to my issues says very good things about the company. I would certainly buy from them again in the future.

The fan looks great and is very quiet. Haven’t set up the Alexa function yet, have just been using the remote, which is very easy to use.

  6. Madro

If you want to have your light or fan turn on and off with Alexa…..don’t bother. Fan never is connected to the internet, unless you reboot it every time.

  8. Amazon Customer

I had the fan installed by a professional electrician and he could not get it to work. After three hours and a customer support reset, we got it spinning. It died a few days later. WAC now tells me that it’s now my responsibility to take the fan apart and replace an internal part! Modern Forms tells me that because I got it working once, it’s not a defective product. I feel like I’ve been scammed.
