    Bought some new ceiling fans and they required a 4” ceiling box. The existing boxes were only 2.5”, so I picked up some of these. Cheap and effective. Heavy duty and rated for ceiling fans. They come with all of the necessary hardware and good instructions. Just be aware that these are only .5” deep, so you’re not going to be able to stuff much of anything into them; for me, this wasn’t a big deal. It just meant trimming excess wire from my fan kit, so I could fit everything into the ceiling fan’s mount cover. The .5” depth was necessary for my install, however, since my home’s original fans were installed in beams that were flush against the upper surface of my ceiling drywall.

    It has 5 knock outs, it comes with four big wood screws to mount to a joist, it’s very thin. Very good value for the money. Obviously you can’t fit more than one (maybe two? check you codes) connections in it, but for a single fixture it works great.

    If you’re hanging a ceiling fan, and you run into a 2nd floor joist, or a rafter that would make you change the location of the fan, then this is the solution. It’s an extremely tight box, and a pain to wire up, but it does the job nicely.

    Replaced a 100+ year old light fixture that was mounted over plaster and lath. This box made the install very easy, and i didn’t have to climb up into the dusty attic.
